Here are the Holiday projects done by 10-2. The finished products are great but literally came down to the wire. The boys finished about half an hour ago, so the projects won't get the usual display time. Enjoy the Blog Display instead! Happy Holidays!Friday, December 19, 2008

10-1's Pop Holiday Pictures
The boys have been working over the past few weeks on Holiday Posters. After reading about the artist Peter Max and looking to him for inspiration the students then designed their own Holiday Posters with a central symbol and other designs radiating out around the middle. As an added elelment the posters had to have parts that were Three Dimensional. Since we head home for the holidays n Friday these will not go on display only on the blog. I suppose these would be an exclusive Internet showing only!Winter Collages
The 7th age was inspired to create collages of winter scenes after reading "The Biggest Best Snowman". We learned the french word collage meaning "a composition made up of various materials-cardboard,string,fabric,newspaper cuttings,photographs,etc.- pasted to a canvas or board". Using Tissue paper, cotton balls, buttons, construction paper and metallic paper we produced these beautiful Winter views. Below are some of the artists in action as well as some finished products.

Snowmen Well Actually, Claymen

The 8th agers have completed their Snowmen pinch pots and they are out on display. We began building the pots last week as well as glazing them. We not only got to use the clay but we learned about the chemical process that occurs while the kiln is in use.The students were intrigued that the glazes would change colors entirely during the second 'firing'. The end results are great and will make a great Winter gift to some lucky recipient!Thursday, December 11, 2008
Beautiful Decor
Both 10-A and 10-B used simple cardboard cones to create the trees and angels you see below. The girls did a fantastic job of adorning their trees, I think the best part is that no two are the same. The students really showed originality in their designs. Many an onlooker has commented on how much they would love to have one for themselves. Perhaps next year will start a business!

Walters Field Trip
The 9th Age took a field trip today to the Walters to see their collection of Egyptian, Greek and Roman Artifacts. The students had a one hour docent led tour threw the museum and then another hour in the Studio. Below are pictures of the boys making clay amulets similar to those found in the tombs of Ancient Egyptian Pharaohs. Each student first sketched their plan and then created the symbols in clay. We then as a group shared what we had created and what the amulet would protect them from. It was a great morning and everyone really seemed to enjoy themselves.
