The Art of Helen Frankenthaler

The girls of the 8th age have spent the past few weeks learning about Abstract expressionist painter, Helen Frankenthaler. We began by looking at her art work and spent a entire class interpreting the meaning of her large abstract canvases. The girls ideas and thoughts about the work were amazingly insightful. After that the girls made color washes, similar to Helen and set to work on their own paintings. We spent 3 classes pouring, painting and staining our "canvases". I've included photos of both the girls at work and some of the end products. Enjoy and try to interpret the meanings of their paintings on your own!
