Totems & Shields

Both the girls and the boys classes will be studying the art of the Native Americans for our next 2 projects. To begin the boys learned about the Totem Poles of the Northwest Indians and then created their own from ancient examples. Staying in the tradition of the Northwest Tribes they only used 4 colors to decorate their Totems: white, turquoise, red and black. The girls made shields using Native American symbols as well as creating their own symbols. Each shield tells a story, try and interpret them for yourselves or just stop and ask an 8th age girl! Our upcoming project will be drums...get ready for some loud art!
